I'm always talking about Trouble & all the narrow paper strips that she busily makes one after the other & carries off to her cage to tuck inside her little tunnel.
Tonight she was happy to demonstrate her expertise using some heavy paper ads that I tore out of the T.V. Guide.
Here's how it goes....Trouble selects a nice piece of paper suitable for strip making. First she goes all along one side & punches holes in the paper all in a row fairly close together. Next she goes back & connects all the holes that she's punched. Once she has a whole strip free, she tucks it into her rump feathers in order to fly back to her "nest" with her nesting material after she makes a few more strips to carry. Since these strips regularly fall out on her journey, she's learned to carry one in her beak as well. (LOL) Perhaps in the wild, the natural nesting material (strips taken from branches) hang in those feathers a little better.
Isn't this amazing....
You should see the handfuls of paper strips I get to pick up each evening when she's in one of her bouts of strip making!
